An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Compliance Solicitor to join the in-house Risk & Compliance function of a leading national law firm. This permanent position, based full-time in either the firm’s Birmingham or Stoke office, offers the chance to play a central role in strengthening and maintaining a sophisticated compliance and risk management framework within a dynamic, regulated legal environment. This role is well-suited to a proactive, detail-oriented solicitor who can balance strong technical regulatory expertise with a pragmatic, commercially aware approach. Working closely with senior stakeholders and teams across the business, you will help ensure the firm’s ongoing compliance with its legal, regulatory, and professional obligations while supporting the development of a robust culture of risk awareness.
Responsibilities
- Provide clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of regulatory and compliance issues.
- Advise on compliance with the SRA Standards and Regulations, AML/CTF legislation, GDPR, and associated regulatory frameworks.
- Contribute to the review, enhancement, and implementation of internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
- Undertake internal audits, file reviews, and assist with the preparation of regulatory reporting and monitoring activity.
- Respond promptly and effectively to day-to-day compliance queries raised by legal and business support teams.
- Support the investigation and reporting of breaches, complaints, and regulatory concerns, working closely with senior leadership where required.
- Assist in the development and delivery of internal training, guidance, and initiatives that promote compliance best practice.
- Contribute to continual improvement activities aimed at strengthening the firm’s risk management and compliance framework.
Qualifications
- UK-qualified solicitor with 3 plus years PQE, ideally with experience in regulatory compliance or professional standards within a legal environment.
- Strong working knowledge of the SRA regulatory landscape, AML/CTF obligations, and data protection legislation.
- Prior experience within a dedicated compliance or risk role in a law firm or legal services setting is highly advantageous.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory matters into clear, practical guidance.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to deliver pragmatic, risk-aware advice in a fast-moving environment.
- Confident working both autonomously and collaboratively within a professional, regulated setting.
