A day in the life

As Pricing Director, you will own the setting of prices and delivery of the required loss ratio for all ManyPets products in the UK. As part of our multi-functional team, you will support the growth and development of our Pet insurance book, monitor our performance, and take our analytics function to the next level. You will be working closely with the Underwriting, Reserving, Marketing, Product Development and Claims teams to ensure the delivery of commercial targets. You’ll also be closely aligned with Data Science and Technology teams in our ever-evolving business.

This role is critical to the success of the business. There is significant opportunity to engage with all aspects of the business and to develop technical skills in data science, reserving and product development. The pricing team at ManyPets is small (but very functional!), and you will manage three direct reports out of the wider team of five.

Your responsibilities

  1. Own and set prices across all products at ManyPets to deliver business plans, working closely and in conjunction with the marketing team to deliver upon premium targets.
  2. Maintain market leading pricing models by developing price optimisation, machine learning models and new pricing techniques. Manage customer lifetime value pricing within pricing and develop this working closely with the marketing team.
  3. Strive to develop the best technical models possible, utilising data both internally and external to the group and embed regular tracking on ongoing performance.
  4. Define, own and develop the overall pricing strategy for ManyPets.
  5. Manage and develop the pricing team, helping the team add value to the wider organisation.
  6. Develop ongoing reporting to track pricing metrics and create new insight into ongoing performance for use within the team and wider group.
  7. Work closely with the data science team to help develop new models and insight.
  8. Communicate pricing outcomes effectively and on a regular basis to senior leadership and external partners (auditors, carriers) as required.

Compliance and Regulatory

  1. Ensure appropriate pricing governance and risk controls are in place.
  2. Maintain a strong price modelling framework and ensure process documentation is kept up to date and relevant.
  3. Manage and contribute to any auditor and carrier reviews related to pricing, ensuring all supplier (external and internal) agreed actions are tracked to completion.
  4. Ensure appropriate provisions are in place that ensure the integrity of compliance, in line with UK regulatory requirements.

Leadership

  1. Provide leadership and guidance that encourages both personal commitment and a high-performing team culture.
  2. Help your team to deliver actionable insight across the business, helping us react to ever-changing market conditions.
  3. Set individual objectives for your team – carrying out regular performance reviews to manage and implement personal development plans.
  4. Work with your team to provide regular informative updates to the team which maintain business awareness, performance and morale.
  5. Lead by example and role model our company values – inspiring others to do the same.

Your skills and experience

  1. You are a talented pricing specialist with a background in personal lines insurance.
  2. You have prior experience in managing a pricing team, with diverse ranges of skill levels.
  3. You are up to date with technical developments in the industry and have a good sense of best practice and knowledge of suitable pricing standards.
  4. You are detail focused, analytical and able to communicate outputs clearly and simply.
  5. You are confident in delivering pricing reviews and reviewing the quality of other analysts’ work.
  6. You can create technical reports and build presentations for senior management and non-technical audiences.
  7. You have experience in one or more coding languages such as SQL, SAS, R or Python, plus advanced Excel skills, and experience in rating tools such as Earnix, Akur8 or WTW Radar.
  8. You are confident in building resilient stakeholder relationships through a partnered approach.
  9. You have detailed understanding of the dynamics of personal lines insurance, with pet insurance experience an advantage but not essential.

The interview process

  2. Stage 2 – You’ll meet our CUO again and we’ll include another senior team member. We’ll interview you on both technical and competency questions. We expect this meeting to last for up to an hour. We may ask you to present a response to a brief at this meeting.
  3. Stage 3 – if you or we feel we need an additional informal meeting before making a decision, we’ll let you know.

Ways of working

On a typical day you’ll be working from a laptop with a screen, mouse, keyboard, and headset. You’ll be meeting your colleagues on Zoom and keeping in touch regularly via email and Slack too. We’d expect you to be using your computer for around seven hours a day. We’d ask that you have a distraction-free work area and a reliable internet connection with a speed of 25Mbps so you can work effectively.
