We are seeking a skilled Research Engineer specialising in Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) to join our growing AM team. In this role, you will contribute to the technical delivery of research and industrial projects, working collaboratively across the organisation to support the development, validation, and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies.
You will work closely with our AM Operations team, supporting practical experimentation and project delivery within our state‑of‑the‑art AM facilities. This position may involve work in the Defence sector and therefore requires eligibility for relevant security vetting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality technical outputs for larger projects and act as Technical Lead on smaller projects.
- Conduct innovative research focused on technologies at TRL/MRL 3+ and support industrial project delivery.
- Contribute to the specification, development, and introduction of new metal AM capabilities.
- Support all aspects of project delivery, including concept generation, detailed design, compliance, commissioning, and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure effective project execution.
Person Specification
Essential
- Strong technical background in metal Additive Manufacturing, specifically Laser Powder Bed Fusion.
- Understanding of the full metal AM process chain.
- Demonstrable problem‑solving capability with a proactive, flexible approach.
Desirable
- Experience with additional AM processes such as Directed Energy Deposition (DED) or Binder Jetting.
