We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join the Digital Engineering team. This is a high-impact development role within, supporting the successful delivery of projects within Digital Engineering.
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will:
- Support Programme and Project Managers in delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Take ownership of discrete work packages and smaller projects end-to-end.
- Act as a key interface between technical teams, stakeholders, and programme leadership.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management tools, reporting, and processes across the portfolio.
This role provides a clear pathway toward full Project Manager responsibility. You’ll be responsible for:
Project Delivery & Coordination- Support planning, scheduling, and delivery of projects across the Digital Engineering portfolio.
- Manage low–medium complexity projects independently, from initiation through to closure.
- Maintain accurate project plans, risk registers, and issue logs.
- Ensure milestones, deliverables, and financial performance are actively tracked and reported.
- Provide clear, structured updates to Programme/Project Managers and senior stakeholders.
- Facilitate regular project reviews, including risk and financial reviews.
- Ensure governance documentation is maintained in line with MTC standards.
- Support engagement with external partners and funding bodies where required.
- Identify resource requirements and liaise with team leaders to secure allocation.
- Track project costs, forecasts, and invoicing points against milestones.
- Support financial governance, ensuring clarity and accuracy of project spend.
- Proactively identify risks and issues, proposing mitigation plans.
- Support change control processes, ensuring all changes are documented and approved.
- Escalate critical issues early with clear recovery actions.
- Support improvements to PM tools, templates and reporting practices.
- Drive consistency in planning, tracking and reporting across projects.
- Contribute to wider programme and portfolio performance insights.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for somebody with experience of working in a project based or professional services environment. You’ll need:
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- To be a confident communicator able to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience using project tools (e.g. MS Project, Excel).
- Basic financial awareness (budget tracking, forecasting, cost control).
- Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to diagnose issues and propose solutions.
Desirable skills and experience include:
- Exposure to engineering, manufacturing, or digital technologies.
- Experience working on grant‑funded or collaborative projects.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, Agile).
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. Dynamics).
