Profile Senior Offshore Well Engineer

Can you translate complex offshore development objectives into safe and executable well programs?

Do you have the technical authority to challenge well designs, safeguard well integrity, and influence operators and contractors throughout the deepwater well lifecycle?

We are looking for a Senior Offshore Well Engineer who can provide technical oversight across the complete deepwater well lifecycle, ensuring wells are planned and delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly, and within budget.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight of the complete well engineering process, from field development concepts and well planning through execution and post-well evaluation.
  • Review and advise on well designs, drilling and completion programs, well integrity strategies, and operational plans.
  • Evaluate engineering calculations and analyses, including casing design, hydraulics, torque and drag, well control, and relief well planning.
  • Review risk assessments, cost estimates, schedules, tender packages, contractors' proposals, and technical deliverables.
  • Monitor offshore drilling progress and well performance, providing technical guidance when operational challenges arise.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, regulatory obligations, approved well engineering standards, and international industry practices.
  • Safeguard well integrity throughout planning, drilling, completion, and post-well activities.
  • Collaborate with subsurface, subsea, completions, project teams, international operators, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, peer reviews, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Review well outcomes, capture lessons learned, and identify opportunities to improve safety, performance, cost efficiency, and engineering standards.
  • Support the development of internal policies, procedures, codes, and technical guidelines.
  • Coach and mentor engineers while contributing to technical knowledge sharing across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements Senior Offshore Well Engineer

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience in well engineering, including a minimum of 3 years supporting offshore deepwater developments.

  • Proven experience reviewing and governing well engineering deliverables on behalf of an operator, international oil company, joint venture partner, or regulatory organisation.
  • Valid IWCF or IADC Well Control certification at Supervisor Level.
  • Strong knowledge of international well engineering and HSE standards, including API, ISO, NORSOK, and OGP guidelines.
  • Experience evaluating engineering documentation, drilling programs, tender packages, contractor submissions, and cost estimates.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary offshore field development teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical and operational risks.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide independent technical guidance and challenge engineering decisions constructively.
  • Strong commitment to safe, compliant, and cost-effective offshore well delivery.
