Bank Practice Nurse - Treatment Room in Whitehaven

Mansion House Surgery is looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Practice Nurse who specialises in treatment room care and treatment. This is a bank vacancy with flexible weekly hours to be agreed. We are a friendly, supportive, patient-centred and forward-thinking GP surgery providing care to over 7,600 patients in the Copeland area. Our team includes three GP partners and three salaried GPs as well as a pharmacist, paramedic, Care Coordinator, three nurses, three HCAs and three ANPs. Our clinicians are supported by an experienced administration team.

Main duties of the job

• Provides high-quality nursing care including wound management; administering vaccinations and medications; removal of sutures/staples; ECGs; blood pressure monitoring; urine testing; venepuncture; cytology; catheters and injections.
• Support other nurses in the Practice team.
• Undertake screening and diagnostic procedures, promoting and being involved in Health Education activity.
• Receive and refer patients when appropriate.
• Update patient computer records by coding activities appropriately and at the time of the consultation using templates where appropriate.
• Comply with computer-based information requirements.
• Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
• Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
• Deliver care according to the NSF and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines and evidence-based care.
• Understand and apply legal policy that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused children and adults, being aware of statutory child/vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance.
• Work as an effective and responsible team member.
• Liaise with the nurse manager on all professional nursing issues.

Overview of your organisation Mansion House Surgery is a 7,600 patient training practice based in the centre of Whitehaven. The building is a Georgian built town house which has been structurally modified to provide clinical space and facilities. Whitehaven is an historic seaside town with pockets of deprivation which has experienced regeneration developments over the last few years. Job responsibilities

Working under the direct supervision of the lead practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Practice Nurse will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective nursing services to the whole practice population. As a member of the clinical nursing team the post holder is accountable for his/her own practice. To work independently, supported by the clinical team within the practice they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy and specifically monitoring diabetes as a long-term health condition.

Key duties and responsibilities

• The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of both drug and non-drug based treatment plans following local and national policies and procedures whilst managing their own workload to deliver the practice priorities.
• The Treatment Room nurse provides high-quality nursing care and clinical support within the treatment room setting to the whole practice population.
• The role involves performing a wide range of nursing procedures, supporting clinicians in minor surgeries and wound management, administering vaccinations and medications and ensuring the safe, efficient and compassionate delivery of patient care.
• Ensure and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups within the practice environment and with external stakeholders.

Clinical

• Adhere to DHSS, PS and NMC guidelines for practice requirements and standards.
• Adhere to Practice guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the development of the Practice policies and strategies, where appropriate.
• Maintain own professional and personal development in accordance with the NMC Code (2008), standards and professional guidelines.

• Experience
• Previous experience in the running of treatment room clinics
• Knowledge of health promotion strategies

• Minimum 1 year post-registration
