Mansfield College is seeking an experienced and proactive Management Accountant to join our Accounts Office. Reporting to the College Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering accurate and timely financial and management information in a complex and dynamic Higher Education environment. This is a key role with responsibility for monthly management accounts, statutory reporting, VAT and charity compliance, budget support, and oversight of Accounts Office operations. You will work closely with budget holders and senior stakeholders while driving process improvements and strengthening financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of monthly management accounts and reporting to budget holders
- Preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations
- Support preparation of statutory accounts and audit liaison
- VAT returns, annual adjustments and liaison with external advisers
- Fund accounting, donations reconciliation and Gift Aid compliance
- Cash flow reporting and support with budgeting and forecasting
- Oversee day-to-day running of the Accounts Office and payroll back-up
- Maintain subsidiary company accounts
- Deputise for the College Accountant when required
- Drive systems improvements and financial process efficiencies
About You
- Qualified accountant with proven management accounting experience
- Strong team management and organisational skills
- Advanced Excel and strong IT capability
- Ability to analyse and manipulate financial data
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
- Calm under pressure and able to manage competing deadlines
- Experience within a charity, Higher Education or Oxford College environment, and knowledge of VAT, fund accounting and Charities SORP would be advantageous.
