Our client is a long-established and highly respected manufacturer, supplying high-quality products to a diverse range of sectors, including aerospace. The Role Reporting directly to senior management, the Workshop Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing and production departments, which include fabrication, welding and brazing, machining, paint finishing, wiring, and assembly. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring someone who thrives in a traditional manufacturing environment while embracing modern technologies such as CNC machining. You’ll be responsible for ensuring all processes run efficiently and effectively, whilst continuously seeking opportunities to improve output, quality, and delivery performance. Key responsibilities will include: Leading and managing the production and assembly departments, ensuring quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery. Supervising and coaching the production team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, flexibility, and collaboration. Overseeing production planning, troubleshooting shortages, and driving effective solutions through both internal resources and external suppliers. Managing materials, components, and consumables, negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and lead times. Reviewing processes, equipment, and working methods, recommending and implementing improvements. Supporting product audits, quality initiatives, and ISO9001 accreditation activities. Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety policies and leading on risk assessments. Managing service schedules, maintenance, and repair of production equipment. This role is integral to the business’s continued success, directly contributing to improved efficiency, excellent customer service, and stock availability. Candidate Requirements The successful candidate will bring proven experience in production management within a metalwork manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of both hands-on production and leadership responsibilities. Essential skills & experience: 5+ years’ experience in a Production Management or senior Supervisory role Proven experience within metalwork – such as welding, fabrication, machining. Solid understanding of engineering and manufacturing principles, processes, and systems. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and manage a team effectively. Working knowledge of ERP systems, with experience in production job management and associated processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Excellent communication skills at all levels of the business. Highly organised, motivated, and proactive with a strong sense of ownership. Collaborative and team-focused approach.
