Our client is a leader in drivetrain technologies, serving industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail, and commercial vehicles. Currently seeking a Transmission Design Engineer to join their established team.
The Role
- Responsible for creating and revising manufacturing drawings, ensuring compliance with BS 8888 standards.
- Manage the CAD system and maintain technical product records, manuals, and descriptions.
- Liaise with workshop staff to address technical queries and provide necessary support.
- Assess and respond to customer technical requests while performing design changes as needed.
- Update drawings to align with current manufacturing processes and standards.
- Collaborate with Sales Managers and support sales administration staff.
- Communicate effectively with customers both in the UK and internationally.
- Support Field Service Engineers on products manufactured or overhauled by the organisation.
- Take ownership of Transmission-related technical Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Visit suppliers to assist and support their in-house manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Quality departments to approve and qualify new suppliers.
The Candidate
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing and design functions.
- Mechanical engineering qualification at a minimum HND level.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar CAD packages.
- Solid understanding of engineering change and document control.
- Familiarity with BS 8888 technical product documentation and specifications.
- Hands-on, flexible, positive, and proactive attitude crucial for supporting junior engineers.
- Industry knowledge, including an understanding of the non-ferrous metal casting process and power transmissions/rotating equipment.
