An innovative and expanding engineering firm is looking to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to its growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge engineering solutions within a collaborative, cross-functional environment. In this role, you’ll be a core member of the mechanical design function, responsible for creating robust, high-performance mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. You’ll also work closely with colleagues from other disciplines, contributing to the design, integration, testing, and delivery of advanced components and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the development of mechanical designs with a focus on manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), EMC considerations, usability, and long-term maintainability.
- Produce and review detailed 3D models and drawings that meet specified technical requirements.
- Support the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Ensure products meet relevant compliance standards, collaborating with internal teams to secure certifications.
- Investigate and resolve issues in existing designs through root cause analysis.
- Participate in peer reviews and contribute to ongoing design improvements.
- Support implementation of engineering changes into production.
Your Background
- HNC or above in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong experience in 3D CAD design.
- Skilled in producing precise component and assembly drawings with a solid understanding of BS 8888 standards.
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Sheet metal and machining processes
- Electronics packaging (e.g., PCB mounting, harnesses, connectors)
- Basic FEA principles
- Shock, vibration, and environmental protection
- EMC shielding and sealing techniques
