Mechanical Design Engineer

The company are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast paced design, research and development team. You will report directly to the design manager and work closely with their in-house fabrication, external suppliers, procurement, and sales and marketing teams to research, innovate and develop parts keeping them at the forefront of their industry.

Key Tasks

• Product development including brainstorming and concept development, 3D modelling of concepts using SolidWorks CAD software.
• FEA analysis of CAD to determine mechanical stability of the design and identify potential failures.
• Contribute to all phases of the design process from “cradle to the grave” following a stage gate style procedure.
• Creation of detailed 2D drawings to be used by in-house and external fabricators.
• Follow company drawing and revision control procedures.

Skills Required

• Strong problem-solving skills and analytical ability to think creatively, working within budget and deadline.
• Competent to a high standard in the use of SolidWorks (or close CAD equivalents) to produce drawings and computer models and have experience in using FEA within the package.
• Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and methods particularly in sheet metal fabrication.

Experience

• 2-5 years proven working experience in NPD for medium and high value work.
• Experience in sheet metal design, welding techniques and fabrication would be a distinct advantage
• 2+ years in a design for manufacture environment preferable

• £40,000-£50,000 DOE
