Toolmaker/Machinist
An exciting opportunity has become available for a full-time, experienced Toolmaker to join a small and friendly Toolroom team. This role involves the manufacture and maintenance of form and cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures to support production in a high-security manufacturing environment.
The Toolroom is equipped with a range of manual and CNC machinery, including wire erosion. While all new tooling is supported with fully dimensioned technical drawings, a solid understanding of tooling functionality is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture, repair, and maintain press tools to precise engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Operate a variety of manual and CNC machinery including milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders.
- Perform routine servicing and regrinding of tools.
- Verify conformity of machined and/or repaired tools to specifications by checking dimensions, clearances, and alignments.
- Investigate and report root causes of equipment breakdowns and faults.
- Ensure all work meets high-quality standards and complies with relevant quality regulations.
- Ensure all tooling is safe, functional, and production-ready before return, following correct preventative maintenance (PM) procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Skilled in the use of precision hand tools.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Experience operating Toolroom machinery and equipment (e.g., milling machines, lathes, surface grinders).
The Ideal Candidate:
- Brings a flexible and proactive approach to teamwork.
- Capable of working independently without supervision.
- Comfortable working in an environment where projects may be shared or passed between team members due to workflow demands.
