Overview:
My client are seeking an experienced and motivated Manual Machinist / Fabricator / Welder to join their high-performance engineering team. The role is based in Southampton with frequent international travel to support global events. You’ll be responsible for machining and fabricating precision components and maintaining equipment both in the workshop and at event sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and machine components in steel, aluminium, stainless steel, and titanium
- Operate manual lathes, mills, and welding equipment (TIG essential; MIG desirable)
- Manage and maintain the mobile machine shop at international events
- Support general engineering, repairs, and mechanical operations under time pressure
- Maintain stock, consumables, and workshop organisation
- Ensure all work meets high-quality and safety standards
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in precision fabrication, welding, and manual machining
- Background in marine, motorsport, or high-performance engineering
- Strong understanding of tolerances and precision measurement
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work independently
- Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of problem-solving in fast-paced environments
- Willing to travel internationally for extended periods
Roughly 150 days a year away from home. When not travelling, you will be based out of Southampton.
Enhanced rate of 1.5 times the general day rate when working away and lieu days given if required to work weekends.
Salary – Circa £20 Per Hour – Happy to be higher for the right person
