My client are recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager/Project Manager to join a well-established and growing engineering business that delivers specialist engineering solutions to customers across a diverse range of industries. The Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Technical Design and Engineering teams, ensuring projects, technical enquiries and operational activities are delivered efficiently, safely and to the highest standards. Working closely with workshop, sales and operational teams, you will help ensure seamless communication, effective project delivery and exceptional customer service. This position combines technical expertise with people leadership and would suit someone with a strong background in hydraulic engineering who enjoys both hands-on problem solving and strategic team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Technical Design and Engineering teams, ensuring workloads are effectively planned and delivered in line with business requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and specialist support in hydraulic systems, fluid power applications and engineering design.
- Act as the primary point of contact for technical enquiries from both internal stakeholders and customers.
- Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to drive consistency, quality and compliance.
- Ensure effective communication and progression of quotations, technical enquiries, production schedules, repair activities and service work.
- Support the conversion of technical opportunities into commercial orders through proactive customer engagement and technical guidance.
- Collaborate closely with workshop, operations and sales teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and customer expectations are met.
- Provide line management and support to engineering and workshop personnel, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Monitor departmental performance, budgets and resource allocation, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, company procedures and engineering standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across technical and operational functions.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience within a Fluid Power or Hydraulic Engineering environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic systems and associated equipment, including pumps, valves, cylinders, actuators and power units.
- Experience leading and developing engineering or technical teams.
- A solid understanding of CAD systems and engineering design processes.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
