An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electronics Engineer to join a specialist engineering team working on the maintenance, repair and overhaul of legacy avionics and electronic systems. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with strong analogue electronics knowledge who enjoys fault finding at component level and developing bespoke testing solutions. You'll work on a wide variety of complex electronic assemblies, playing a key role in supporting repair activities while helping to improve engineering processes and testing capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fault Diagnosis & Repair
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults on analogue avionics systems and electronic assemblies.
    • Carry out component-level repairs including PCB fault finding, soldering and rework.
    • Repair wiring, connectors and associated electronic assemblies.
    • Replace obsolete or failed electronic components where required.
    • Work on a range of legacy systems including:
      • Flight instrumentation
      • Control units and panels
      • Navigation and gyroscopic equipment
    • Apply first-principles fault-finding techniques where technical documentation is limited or unavailable.
  • Test Equipment Design & Validation
    • Design and develop bespoke test equipment and test rigs to support repair activities.
    • Define test methods, architecture and acceptance criteria.
    • Build, commission and maintain test equipment using appropriate instrumentation.
    • Validate repaired equipment against functional and performance requirements.
  • Circuit Analysis & Reverse Engineering
    • Analyse analogue circuits to understand functionality and identify failure modes.
    • Interpret circuit diagrams, wiring schematics and technical manuals.
    • Reverse engineer electronic assemblies where documentation is incomplete.
    • Reconstruct system functionality to support repair and testing activities.
  • Documentation
    • Produce detailed engineering documentation including:
      • Strip and build reports
      • Test procedures
      • Fault reports
    • Develop test plans where OEM documentation is unavailable or insufficient.
    • Ensure all engineering work is fully documented and traceable.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong background in analogue electronics.
  • Proven experience of component-level fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, schematics and wiring layouts.
  • Experience with PCB repair, soldering and electronic rework.
  • Competent using electronic test equipment including:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Multimeters
    • Signal generators
    • Spectrum analysers
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited technical documentation.

Desirable

  • Experience within avionics, aerospace, defence or other safety-critical industries.
  • Knowledge of legacy or obsolete electronic systems.
  • Experience designing and building bespoke test equipment or test rigs.
  • Understanding of aerospace or defence engineering standards.
  • Basic CAD experience for test equipment or fixture design.
