An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CAD Engineer to join a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business operating within the aerospace sector. This is a hands-on engineering role supporting workshop and production teams by producing accurate CAD models, technical drawings and engineering documentation. You'll play a key role in reverse engineering components, resolving obsolescence issues, maintaining engineering data and supporting manufacturing from concept through to production. Key Responsibilities

  • CAD Design & Reverse Engineering
    • Reverse engineer components and assemblies from physical samples and existing drawings.
    • Produce accurate 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to industry standards.
    • Specify materials, tolerances, fits and surface finishes.
    • Ensure drawings are suitable for manufacture and inspection.
  • Engineering Documentation
    • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
    • Produce complete engineering documentation packs for manufacturing and procurement.
    • Maintain accurate engineering records and technical documentation.
  • Inspection & Material Analysis
    • Identify materials and specifications during reverse engineering activities.
    • Liaise with external testing laboratories where material analysis is required.
    • Support dimensional inspection activities, including CMM where applicable.
    • Assist with developing inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Configuration Control
    • Manage drawing revisions and engineering change control.
    • Ensure all engineering documentation is correctly version controlled and approved before release.
    • Maintain full traceability of engineering updates.
  • Manufacturing Support
    • Produce clear work instructions for manufacturing teams.
    • Collaborate closely with production personnel to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
    • Provide technical support to resolve production issues.
    • Assist with tooling, fixtures and test equipment development.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Support testing of components and assemblies.
    • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, documentation and manufacturing efficiency.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, BricsCAD, AutoCAD or similar.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerancing.
  • Good knowledge of engineering materials and their mechanical properties.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical engineering approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.

Desirable

  • Experience in reverse engineering.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection.
  • Experience using CMM equipment or dimensional inspection techniques.
