Our client is a well-established UK manufacturer delivering engineered solutions across a variety of sectors including security, transport and medical. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Electrical & Controls Manager to take ownership of all electrical and automation activities across the business. This is a senior technical role offering genuine influence over project delivery, system design and commercial performance, working closely with engineering, projects and sales teams.
The Role
As Controls & Electrical Manager, you will lead all electrical and automation elements of projects from initial concept through to installation and commissioning. The position is mainly office-based, with regular site involvement as required. You will act as the technical authority for controls and electrical systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and implementation of control systems across multiple projects.
- Producing and reviewing electrical drawings including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and cable schedules.
- Managing PLC, HMI and SCADA software development.
- Defining technical scope from client requirements and producing detailed execution plans.
- Supporting tendering activities with technical input, costings and supplier engagement.
- Managing subcontractors and external suppliers related to electrical and controls packages.
- Overseeing testing and commissioning activities, including factory and site acceptance.
- Carrying out site surveys and coordinating electrical installation requirements.
- Maintaining commercial oversight of all controls and electrical project elements.
- Providing technical guidance to internal teams and supporting continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in electrical and controls engineering within a manufacturing or project-based environment.
- Strong control panel knowledge, including design and manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of industrial automation systems (PLC experience essential).
- Solid knowledge of electrical standards and installation regulations.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into practical solutions.
- Comfortable working across multiple departments and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Experience using CAD and electrical design software.
- Commercially aware with experience managing budgets or project costs.
- Proactive, organised and capable of working autonomously when required.
