An established manufacturing business is seeking a multi-skilled Mechanical Technician to join a busy production environment. This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced Mechanical Fitter with a strong mechanical background and a solid mechanical/electrical skill split, ideally gained within bespoke machinery or automation settings. The role supports machine build, testing, commissioning, and ongoing improvement activities within a quality- and safety-focused operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, test, and commission machinery for pre-delivery factory acceptance testing
  • Carry out mechanical fitting and assembly of bespoke machinery
  • Assemble equipment from technical and engineering drawings
  • Install motors, gearboxes, belts, bearings, and complex mechanical assemblies
  • Work with pneumatics and automation systems throughout build and test phases
  • Assist with fault finding and diagnosis of mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues
  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machine tools, including turning and milling
  • Support validation and compliance activities in line with quality standards
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support and mentor Mechanical Fitters, promoting safe working practices and build quality
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations
  • Use IT systems and basic documentation tools for reporting and record keeping

The Candidate

  • Holds a recognised engineering qualification or has completed a relevant apprenticeship
  • Brings 3–5 years of mechanical fitting experience
  • Has worked on bespoke machinery or special-purpose equipment within a manufacturing environment
  • Experienced in machine set-up, testing, and pre-delivery commissioning
  • Demonstrates strong mechanical build, assembly, and fitting capability
  • Possesses a practical understanding of pneumatics and automation systems
  • Machining experience, including turning and milling operations
  • Confident using IT systems for documentation and reporting
