My client is seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing manufacturing business specialising in engineered plastic components. This role will focus on the design and development of components and tooling, ensuring solutions are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with customer and internal requirements.
You will work closely with production, tooling, and cross-functional teams, playing a key role in delivering high-quality engineered solutions within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop 3D models and 2D drawings for components and associated tooling
- Modify and optimise existing designs to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost
- Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure design feasibility
- Conduct design reviews and implement feedback where required
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities
- Ensure all designs meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and specifications
- Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, revisions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Assist with material selection appropriate to manufacturing processes
- Liaise with suppliers and external partners during tooling manufacture and validation
- Support and contribute to continuous improvement across design and manufacturing
- Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Strong experience in CAD design and technical drawing creation
- Experience with injection mould tooling/plastics manufacturing
- Proficient in CAD software
- Experience or exposure to manufacturing environments (plastics or similar advantageous)
- Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with tooling or component design
- Exposure to simulation tools
- Experience working within a fast-paced production environment
Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
