My client is seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing manufacturing business specialising in engineered plastic components. This role will focus on the design and development of components and tooling, ensuring solutions are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with customer and internal requirements.

You will work closely with production, tooling, and cross-functional teams, playing a key role in delivering high-quality engineered solutions within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop 3D models and 2D drawings for components and associated tooling
  • Modify and optimise existing designs to improve performance, manufacturability, and cost
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure design feasibility
  • Conduct design reviews and implement feedback where required
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
  • Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting activities
  • Ensure all designs meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and specifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, revisions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Assist with material selection appropriate to manufacturing processes
  • Liaise with suppliers and external partners during tooling manufacture and validation
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement across design and manufacturing
The Candidate
  • Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience in CAD design and technical drawing creation
  • Experience with injection mould tooling/plastics manufacturing
  • Proficient in CAD software
  • Experience or exposure to manufacturing environments (plastics or similar advantageous)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience with tooling or component design
  • Exposure to simulation tools
  • Experience working within a fast-paced production environment

Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
