About our Client: Our client is a leading company in defence and aerospace technology, specializing in cutting-edge research, testing, and innovation across multiple sectors. They are known for their state-of-the-art facilities and highly skilled workforce, making them a key player in advancing technology and delivering high-quality solutions.
Role Purpose: An opportunity for a mechanical or structural engineer with a composites background to join the delivery team on a large high profile design project delivering into the maritime defence sector. The role will be responsible for activities relating to the verification and validation of composite structural and non-structural components from coupon testing through to large assemblies. The engineer will be expected to work with other teams supporting the development of both bonded and bolted composite joints and the design of the composite to metalwork interface.
The successful candidate will have experience in verification and validation of composite structures using pre-preg and resin infusion techniques. The candidate will have a proven track record of delivering to time and budget on complex programmes and an ability to work independently and critically review their own work. The candidate will also be involved in the peer reviewing of other engineering work packages in support of your colleagues.
Key Accountabilities:
- Delivery: To provide effective leadership and coordination of the engineering and technical activities to deliver specific projects. Combine subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems. Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. Work with the Project Management community to task and control work conducted by technical teams. Manage the project/programme to undertake the work within the agreed quality, timescale and budget.

Work with other functions (e.g. Technical Excellence; Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work such that it complies with statutory, regulatory, company, business and project specific processes and procedures.
- External Collaboration: Give technical presentations and talk knowledgably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings.
- Safety: Ensure projects/programmes you are responsible for are conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices and providing potential options to reduce the risk so that it is as low as responsibly practicable.
- Governance: Ensure that Governance is applied consistently across the projects where you are involved. Act as a peer reviewer for other projects where suitable.

The applicant should have previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary project team. They should have an excellent understanding in engineering equivalent to someone who has completed a BEng / MEng in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering and who has experience of structural design to recognised codes of practice either Maritime or Civil. The applicant should be, or be working towards, a Chartered Engineer.
Due to the nature of the work the candidate must be a UK national and have or be able to obtain security clearance to the appropriate level.
