Hours: Monday to Friday, Dayshift 07:00-16:00

Salary: £32,000-£34,000 per annum

Manpower Scotland is recruiting for a permanent Turner/Miller to join a busy engineering workshop in Glasgow. This role involves producing precision components using manual lathes, milling machines, and CNC mills, working to tight tolerances and supporting quick turnaround machining requirements. You will work closely with fabrication and gearbox repair teams to meet customer deadlines and maintain high standards of accuracy, safety, and housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines to produce precision components.
  • Operate CNC milling machines and lathes as required.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and job sheets accurately.
  • Select appropriate tools, measure and check work using gauges and instruments.
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish to specification.
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance and safe material handling.
  • Collaborate with fabrication and gearbox repair teams to meet deadlines.
  • Support urgent jobs and contribute to continuous improvement in machining processes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong ability in manual turning and milling, including machine setup and working to tight tolerances.
  • Experience with CNC milling and lathes.
  • Competence in reading engineering drawings and using measuring instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Experience in a machine shop environment with knowledge of general engineering practices and basic machine maintenance.
  • Understanding of fabrication and welding processes (MIG/TIG) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with drills, slotting machines, press brakes, and guillotines is beneficial.
  • Good awareness of health and safety regulations and commitment to safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing time effectively and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Relevant apprenticeship or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or machining, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in gearbox repair, roller and shaft work, or industrial maintenance is beneficial but not essential.
