Coded Welder
Location: On-site Fabrication Shop in Birtley, Gateshead
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate: Dependent on experience paid via CIS
Employment Type: Temporary to Permanent
We are looking for an experienced Coded Welder to join an established fabrication team. The successful candidate will work alongside the Fabrication & Welding Manager, welding stainless steel tanks, stainless steel pipework and mild steel frames.
The main requirement is strong experience in FCAW/Flux Core welding, with candidates ideally coded to ASME Section IX for Carbon Steel. Experience with GTAW/TIG welding of 316L stainless steel is also desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Weld and fabricate components from engineering and technical drawings.
- Carry out welding to the required standards and specifications.
- Prepare, grind and finish materials and completed products.
- Complete quality checks on finished work.
- Use a range of fabrication and welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, plasma cutters and hand tools.
- Assist with general fabrication tasks as required.
- Work efficiently to meet strict deadlines and agreed targets.
- Maintain high standards of quality and comply with all safety, HSEQ and company procedures.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in a similar welding/fabrication role.
- Strong FCAW/Flux Core welding experience.
- Previous ASME IX coding preferred, ideally for carbon steel.
- Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required.
- Eligible to work permanently in the UK.
- Full UK driving licence.
This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity for the right candidate. The successful person will need to be reliable, organised, quality-focused and comfortable working to strict deadlines within a small team.
