We are now looking to welcome a skilled and motivated Second Stage HGV Body Builder to our growing team. The role will carry out second‑stage builds on Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), including fitting, fabricating, and assembling commercial vehicle bodies such as tippers, curtainsiders, box bodies, beavertails, skip loader, hook loaders, cranes, and specialist conversions. The role ensures all work meets regulatory, safety, and quality standards before final delivery to the customer. Working closely with our experienced workshop team, you will help ensure every finished vehicle reflects our high standards of safety, quality, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build & Assembly
    • Construct and install second‑stage bodies including tippers, platforms, beavertails, box bodies, curtainsiders, and bespoke builds.
    • Fit ancillary equipment such as cranes, tail lifts, hydraulic systems, winches, toolboxes, fall‑protection systems, and lighting equipment.
    • Modify chassis and structural components to meet customer specifications and internal build processes.
  • Fabrication & Mechanical Work
    • Carry out fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, welding (MIG/TIG), and assembly of steel and aluminium components.
    • Produce brackets, mounts, and custom components to support body installation.
    • Complete basic auto‑electrical tasks such as installing wiring looms, sensors, and lighting systems.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
    • Work to Whole Vehicle Type Approval, IVA, LOLER, PUWER, and all AHC quality standards.
    • Conduct pre‑delivery checks and resolve build issues before handover.
    • Maintain a clean, safe working environment and adhere to all workshop H&S policies.
  • Communication & Documentation
    • Complete job cards, inspection sheets, and build documentation accurately.
    • Liaise with supervisors, designers, and production colleagues to ensure consistent build quality.
    • Highlight shortages, delays, or technical issues in a timely and constructive manner.

Skills & Experience

  • Essential
    • Previous experience in body building, coachbuilding, vehicle fabrication, or similar heavy commercial vehicle work.
    • Confident fabricator with strong mechanical aptitude.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and build instructions.
    • Skilled in the safe use of workshop tools and machinery.
    • A proactive, positive approach with pride in producing high‑quality work.
  • Desirable
    • Experience in HGV second‑stage manufacturing or specialist vehicle builds.
    • Welding qualifications or evidence of competent welding ability.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical systems.
    • FLT, overhead crane, or MEWP certification.
    • Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ in Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, or Vehicle Body Building).
