The ANP trainee role provides an opportunity for experienced clinicians to develop into advanced practitioners. It combines hands‑on clinical experience with structured learning, enabling the trainee to gradually take on greater responsibility, expand their clinical expertise, and contribute more broadly to primary patient care and service development. Manor View Practice will sponsor your academic studies and you will be expected to study in your own time.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision to assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a range of conditions
  • Take patient histories and perform clinical examinations
  • Develop and implement treatment plans appropriate to level of training
  • Request and interpret basic investigations (e.g. blood tests, ECGs, urine tests)
  • Support safe prescribing practice (working towards independent prescribing if not yet qualified)
  • Provide advice, health promotion, and patient education
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients presenting with a wide range of health issues
  • Provide timely and effective treatment and management plans
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient consultations and treatment plans
  • Collaborate closely with doctors, care navigators, and other healthcare professionals within the triage hub
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of clinical processes and protocols
  • Carry out clinical practice at an advanced level using expert clinical skills, critical judgement and knowledge to deliver appropriate and safe care
  • Deliver care in line with national guidelines and evidence‑based care
  • Triage and treat patients, performing specialist assessment and making referrals as necessary to other members of the primary and secondary health care teams
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, including drug and non‑drug based treatment methods into a management plan
  • Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols (e.g. X‑ray, blood tests, scans)
  • Prescribe and review medication that is appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with latest evidence‑based practice, national and practice protocols and within the scope of qualified practice
  • Refer patients to other members of the multi‑disciplinary practice teams, secondary care organisations and other organisations as necessary

Learning and Development

  • Undertake formal academic training (e.g. MSc Advanced Practice) alongside clinical role
  • Work towards competency frameworks aligned with ANP standards
  • Seek regular supervision, mentorship and feedback from senior clinicians
  • Maintain a portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression and competency
  • Engage in reflective practice and continuous professional development

Patient Care and Support

  • Deliver patient‑centred care in line with best practice and local guidelines
  • Support continuity of care and follow‑up where appropriate
  • Recognise clinical limitations and elevate concerns to senior staff
  • Contribute to improving patient experience and outcomes

Team and Service Contribution

  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team (GPs, nurses, AHPs, admin staff)
  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews and clinical discussions
  • Support service delivery, including managing workload appropriate to training level
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives where possible

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
  • Ensure clinical systems kept up to date, recording and/or amending accurate details
  • Ensure appropriate items of service claims are made accurately, reporting any problems to the practice administrator
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
  • Restock and maintain clinical areas and consulting rooms

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain your own annual registration with the HCPC and adhere to its Code of Professional Conduct
  • Promote a professional approach at all times to patients and staff, both in and out of the practice
  • Maintain continuous CPD and ensure a PDP is kept up to date in line with the practice and nursing team development plans
  • Participate in and attend practice meetings and in‑house training

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Band 6 nursing, Minimum 2 years experience
  • Desirable: Independent Prescriber qualification, Any acute nursing level 7 modules – minor illness and injury is acceptable although sponsorship for this course will be available

Experience

  • Essential: Demonstrated experience working in acute primary care settings
  • Desirable: Working in primary care, Autonomous decision making, Practice nurse

Hours / Development

  • Able to start work at 8am and work 2 or 3 days per week
  • Have a strong commitment to professional and academic development
  • Be prepared to study in your own time
  • Basic IT skills
