The first contact physiotherapist role supports the delivery of MSK assessment and signposting within primary care. The postholder will work at the Manor View Practice which has 4 sites in Bushey, Watford, South Oxhey and Borehamwood. This role will be based at Borehamwood but the clinician may be asked to cover a clinic at one of our other sites.

About us: We are a busy, friendly, proactive and forward-thinking practice. The current workforce is led by six GP Partners, supported by a large clinical and non-clinical team, operating across four sites, in Hertfordshire with around 150 staff. We provide high-quality care to our local community.

This is a part-time position, primarily based at our Borehamwood site, with some travel to our other three locations. This position will support our existing FCP who is based at our Bushey site.

Job responsibilities:

  • To work as an autonomous, extended scope practitioner, with an extended scope of practice to work within a team.
  • To deliver a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal patients in primary care GP practice.
  • To be an expert clinician and work as an independent practitioner working within GP practice alongside wider clinical team and practice staff.
  • This will involve seeing patients on a first contact basis, without prior contact with their GP, in order to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the management of patients with MSK conditions and provide an advisory service to professional colleagues and support the GPs in the education and supervision of clinical staff.
  • To aid in the collection of data for the purpose of regular research, audit, evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice within the field of MSK in Primary Care.
  • Use extended scope clinical skills such as joint or soft tissue injections and make radiology referrals. Training will be given if required.
  • Requesting diagnostic services such as x-rays, to aid diagnosis and the management plans of patients and interpret and act on the results of such tests.

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Managing, planning, monitoring and advising on general physiotherapy care programmes in core areas including disease states, long-term conditions identified needs assessments.
  • Interpretation of tests.
  • Making decisions about the best pathway of care.
  • Involving patients in decision making and supporting adherence as per NICE guidelines.
  • Good MSK experience.
  • Working in general primary care/general practice.
  • Experience of working in a GP practice.

Qualifications:

  • BSc or Grad Dip in Physiotherapy.
  • MSc or MSc modules for advanced practice.
  • UK registration with HCPC.
  • Practice portfolio in core physiotherapy & MSK physiotherapy.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
  • Level 3 safeguarding training (in past 3 years).

Skills:

  • Physiotherapy skills in core areas.
  • Identification of needs assessment and patient referral to meet patient needs.
  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook.
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising).
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow policy and procedure.
  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours.
  • Satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Fit to work.
  • Available to work 15-25 hours per week.
