About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer with genuine, hands‑on experience in virtualisation, advanced networking, Microsoft security technologies, multi‑site infrastructure, and enterprise application platforms. This role requires a real technical practitioner—someone who can design, deliver, and support complex systems with confidence, depth, and accuracy. You will work closely with the Head of IT Infrastructure to support and evolve a robust, secure and scalable technology environment across the organisation, whilst also being an escalation point for members of the IT Team. If you are a proactive, hands‑on technical expert who thrives in complex enterprise environments, we’d like to hear from you.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and optimise enterprise virtualisation platforms, including replication, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Administer remote application/desktop delivery and maintain Windows & Linux servers.
  • Manage enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Configure and secure network‑attached storage and ensure high availability and resilience.
  • Support enterprise switching, wireless, WAN, and SASE environments.
  • Maintain secure network architecture and ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Manage Microsoft E5 estate (Defender, DLP, Conditional Access, Azure AD).
  • Enhance cloud/on‑prem security posture, monitoring, and response processes.
  • Support SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PowerBI, and ERP systems.
  • Ensure application performance, integrations, and security.
  • Work with Head of IT Infrastructure on strategy and standards.
  • Act as senior escalation point and lead infrastructure projects.
  • Produce technical documentation and architecture diagrams.

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands‑on experience with enterprise switching, wireless, WAN, and virtualisation platform (including clusters and multi‑site replication).
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/Unix, storage platforms, enterprise backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience with SASE or similar secure networking, identity management, Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access, and DLP policies.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and enterprise application environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Clear communicator, strong documentation skills, proactive team player, organized.
