Contract: Permanent – Full‑Time & Part‑Time positions available

Hours: Full-time or part-time; 37.5 hours per week for full-time positions. Part-time hours will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide remote clinical assessments and triage advice to patients calling 999.
  • Use clinical decision support software and other IT systems for patient assessment.
  • Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors and dispatch teams within the EOC.
  • Clinically assess, prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers and healthcare professionals, using negotiation skills to coordinate care and facilitate referrals.
  • Act as a point of clinical leadership and decision-making within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.

Working Conditions

  • Contractual: Permanent. Service operates 365 days a year, 24/7. Unsocial hours will be paid in addition to salary.
  • Training: 8.5 weeks full‑time NHS Pathways 999 training and ongoing mentoring. No leave during training. Flexibility required during mentoring period.
  • Shift pattern: Must be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Applicants must live within 45–60 minutes of the chosen centre.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered with HCPC or NMC (Adult nurses only) with at least two years post‑registration experience in urgent, emergency or unscheduled care since 2020.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development beyond the minimum requirement of the registering body.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the development of less experienced clinicians or non‑clinical staff.
  • Exhibited ability to communicate clinical information clearly and sensitively with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals.

Desirable

  • Experience in telephone triage or remote clinical assessment.
  • High level of typing accuracy and computing competence.
  • Recognised mentoring, coaching or supervision qualification.
