About the Role
Are you an autonomous Technical Author ready to take full ownership of an engineering documentation suite? Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will operate as sole Technical Author. You will produce, maintain and update critical technical publications, including comprehensive operation and maintenance manuals. This role requires gathering complex data from a wide range of internal and external sources to create clear, compliant and high-quality documentation.
Main Objectives and Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Create and edit operating instructions, maintenance procedures, schedules, illustrated parts data, spares lists and marketing leaflets.
- Asset Generation: Generate high-quality illustrations from existing 3D CAD data, diagrams, and other visual aids.
- Quality Assurance: Proofread documents thoroughly prior to publication to ensure they meet strict business and industry expectations.
- Data Collation: Collate and verify technical information about products from multiple engineering and external sources.
- Version Control: Utilise document management system to strictly control revision levels and documentation history.
The Ideal Candidate
- Education: Degree qualified in an engineering or scientific discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Experience: Proven technical writing experience within an engineering environment, with a knack for translating complex data into clear text.
- Language Skills: High standard of written and verbal English, with a working knowledge of ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with MS Word, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Creative Cloud, and SolidWorks Composer (or similar CAD illustration software).
- Work Style: Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously, while collaborating effectively with the wider engineering team.
- Key Traits: High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritise your workload based on changing demands.
- Advantages: Experience with ASD S2000M, working within an SME, or managing multi-language translation service providers is highly desirable.
