You will play a key role in delivering PAS128-compliant utility surveys, collaborating closely with Survey Leads, project teams, and clients. This role combines hands-on surveying with responsibility for data quality, programme delivery, and on-site coordination, while also supporting the development of junior colleagues. You will be a confident and experienced professional, capable of leading activities on site, making informed decisions regarding methodology, safety, and quality, and managing projects from mobilisation through to final handover. Working as part of an established national team, you will contribute to projects across infrastructure, rail, and complex underground environments using modern survey technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of PAS128-compliant utility surveys from mobilisation to project handover.
- Take ownership of on-site safety, quality assurance, survey methodology, and overall project delivery.
- Detect and map underground utilities using electromagnetic locating (EML) and ground penetrating radar (GPR).
- Conduct total station and GNSS survey observations.
- Process and manage EML and GPR data using AutoCAD, IQMaps, and Geolitix.
- Ensure survey data is maintained in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
- Collaborate with Survey Leads and project teams to determine the most effective survey methods and technologies.
- Coordinate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and other on-site teams.
- Mentor and support junior surveyors by sharing technical expertise and providing constructive feedback.
- Work flexibly to meet project demands, including occasional night shifts and travel away from home when required.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering PAS128-compliant utility surveys.
- Strong working knowledge of GPR, electromagnetic locating equipment, and TPS/GNSS survey instruments.
- Proficient in AutoCAD with experience processing and managing survey data.
- Experience in confined spaces, sewer surveys, laser scanning, or rail environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or supporting junior surveyors.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across live projects.
- Flexible approach to working hours and project locations.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
