We are currently working with our client, a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor, who is looking to appoint an experienced Senior General Foreman to join an £11m bridge replacement project near Seaford, East Sussex. The project is already underway and is scheduled to run through to early 2028, offering an excellent opportunity to join a major heavy civil engineering scheme and play a key role in its successful delivery. The works involve the construction of a new bridge over the River Cuckmere, together with a broad range of complex civil engineering activities, including bored piling, sheet piling, retaining walls, earthworks, highway works, scour protection and temporary works.
The Role
As Senior General Foreman, you will take a leading role in the day-to-day delivery of the works, coordinating site teams, subcontractors, plant and materials to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Directing and coordinating the work of site operatives and subcontractors.
- Ensuring environmental management systems are effectively implemented on site.
- Supporting the preparation and delivery of project programmes.
- Planning and ordering materials and plant to meet programme requirements.
- Maintaining accurate daily records of works completed.
- Monitoring progress and ensuring works are delivered in accordance with the site programme.
- Ensuring all plant and equipment is suitable for the required tasks and complies with current legislation.
- Ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with the required quality, health & safety and environmental standards.
- Working closely with the project management team to support the successful delivery of the scheme.
About You
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior General Foreman with a strong background in heavy civil engineering and infrastructure projects. You will ideally have:
- Proven experience working as a Senior General Foreman or General Foreman on major civil engineering schemes.
- A strong background in highways and earthworks, ideally gained with a main contractor.
- Experience leading site teams and subcontractors on complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong communication and people-management skills, with the ability to drive productivity while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
- SMSTS and CSCS certification.
- Lift Supervisor and NRSWA Supervisor qualifications would be advantageous.
- A full UK driving licence.
