An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a Special Projects engineering team delivering mission‑critical solutions within the UK defence sector. This role sits at the forefront of highly classified programmes and offers the chance to work on technically challenging designs, from concept through to prototype, test and delivery, in a secure, collaborative environment. What You'll Be Working On:

  • Developing innovative, robust mechanical design solutions from requirements and design briefs
  • Producing concept and detailed designs using CREO Parametric CAD
  • Creating supporting calculations and analysis to justify design decisions
  • Designing high‑integrity components, complex mechanisms and linkages
  • Defining and specifying electrical interfaces for mechanical sub‑systems
  • Collaborating closely with Subject Matter Experts and Design Authorities
  • Supporting drawing production and configuration control using Windchill PDM
  • Preparing and presenting design review packs to senior stakeholders
  • Supporting prototype manufacture, assembly and supplier engagement
  • Leading and participating in physical testing and design proving
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements and legislation

What We're Looking For:

  • Essential:
  • Ability to work in the UK without restriction
  • DV clearance held or willingness to enter DV vetting immediately
  • Sole UK nationality (due to the nature of the work)
  • Proven experience in mechanical sub‑system and component design
  • Strong experience with CREO CAD and Windchill PDM
  • Knowledge of complex mechanism design principles
  • Ability to perform basic structural and kinematic calculations
  • Excellent attention to detail and high‑quality technical documentation skills
  • Experience delivering designs for harsh or demanding environments
  • Highly desirable:
  • Background in Defence, Aerospace or Space sectors
  • Experience specifying materials, treatments and finishes for high‑performance products
  • Experience designing mechanical systems with integrated electrical interfaces

Security & Working Arrangements:

  • BPSS required to start; DV required for the role (support provided through the process if not already held)
  • 100% onsite working due to security requirements
  • Long‑term, secure programmes with strong investment in engineering capability
