The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC lathes, producing precision components to extremely tight tolerances and working with a range of exotic and high-performance materials.

The original specification includes programming responsibility, which has been removed for this contract requirement.

The position reports to the Machine Shop Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Set and operate CNC turning machines.

Manufacture precision components to tight tolerances, typically within microns.

Machine exotic and difficult materials including Inconel, Titanium, Hastelloy, Duplex and other specialist alloys.

Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds.

Carry out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment.

Ensure manufactured components meet required quality standards.

Troubleshoot machining issues and make appropriate machine adjustments.

Maintain accurate, consistent production standards.

Follow all site health and safety procedures.

Work within a workshop-based precision machining environment where PPE is required.

Experience Required

Proven experience as a CNC Turner / CNC Setter Operator.

Strong CNC lathe setting and operating experience.

Experience machining exotic materials and difficult alloys.

Ability to manufacture complex components to very tight tolerances.

Strong understanding of tooling, speeds, feeds and machining strategies.

Ability to confidently read engineering drawings and GD&T.

Experience carrying out inspection and quality checks using precision measuring equipment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Desirable

Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent technical qualification.

Previous experience within aerospace, oil & gas, defence or other high-precision engineering environments.

Familiarity with CAD/CAM environments.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.

Working Location
