Overview
We are seeking an experienced Principal Pipeline Engineer to join a growing Energy Transition team, supporting the design and delivery of low-carbon infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a key technical leadership role, responsible for developing and overseeing pipeline and mechanical engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of transmission projects, including natural gas, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and wider energy transition systems. You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing across the full project lifecycle—from concept and FEED through to detailed design, construction, operation, and decommissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of pipeline and mechanical engineering designs across low-carbon transmission projects
- Deliver engineering solutions across feasibility, concept, FEED, value engineering, and detailed design stages
- Produce key technical deliverables including:
- Pipeline and AGI design packages
- Wall thickness calculations
- Piping specifications and routing studies
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards IEng/CEng) with a relevant professional institution
- Strong understanding of IGEM/TD/1, TD/13, and gas network operator standards
- Extensive experience in pipeline and AGI design, including routing and high-pressure systems
- Strong knowledge of national and international pipeline and piping design codes and standards
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments and contributing to 3D plant models
- Strong understanding of engineering design processes, calculations, and scope development
- Experience resolving operational and integrity-related engineering issues
- Proficiency in Autodesk software, including:
- AutoCAD
- AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Navisworks
- BIM 360
Project Scope
Projects will span a range of energy transition and low-carbon infrastructure developments, including:
- Natural gas transmission (below and above 7 bar)
- Hydrogen pipeline systems
- Carbon dioxide transport infrastructure
- Future fuels and carbon capture systems
The role also includes exposure to early-stage and first-of-a-kind technologies within the evolving energy transition sector.
