We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering business, working on the design and development of complex mechanical products and systems. This is a varied role covering the full design lifecycle, from initial concepts and detailed design through to testing, development and manufacture.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing mechanical components, assemblies and systems, working closely with other engineering and manufacturing functions to deliver robust and practical design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and systems from concept through to manufacture.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Develop designs against engineering requirements and specifications.
- Carry out design calculations, tolerance analysis and engineering assessments.
- Support prototype builds, testing and design verification.
- Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
- Investigate and resolve technical and design issues.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Ensure designs meet relevant engineering, quality and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and configuration throughout the design lifecycle.

About You
We're looking for a practical and technically capable Mechanical Design Engineer with experience developing complex engineered products. You should be comfortable taking ownership of your designs and working collaboratively with engineering and manufacturing teams.
Essential Experience
- HNC/HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in mechanical design and product development.
- Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing experience.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerancing.
- Experience taking designs from concept through development and into manufacture.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience designing complex mechanical systems, structures or assemblies.
- Background in defence, automotive, aerospace, motorsport, off-highway or other specialist engineering environments.
- Experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication, machining and welding processes.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and testing.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and compliance requirements.
- Experience using PLM/PDM systems.
