We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior / Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy on a 12-month contract based in Cardiff or Swansea. The Role
As a Senior / Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will take a leading role in the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects from concept through to completion. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and contractors, you'll provide technical expertise, manage project delivery and mentor junior engineers while ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, programme and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects.
- Produce mechanical specifications, equipment schedules and technical documentation.
- Undertake heating, cooling and ventilation calculations using industry-standard software.
- Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations and design information.
- Manage project delivery from design through to completion.
- Attend client, contractor and design team meetings.
- Carry out site surveys, inspections and construction progress reviews.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and global engineering resources.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers.
- Build strong client relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with CIBSE or IMechE, or be actively working towards chartership.
- Previous experience within a building services consultancy or contractor design environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK mechanical building services design standards and best practice.
- Experience using software such as IES, Hevacomp, NBS and Revit.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
- A proactive approach with strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Desirable:
- CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) accreditation.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project budgets.
