We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical systems across multiple infrastructure assets within a major rail and tunnelling project environment. This role will suit an engineer with strong experience in construction delivery, mechanical design coordination, stakeholder management, and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be involved in the full project lifecycle from Stage 5 design development through to installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of mechanical systems including Fire Main, Public Health, Drainage, Pumping Systems, and associated MEP infrastructure.
- Coordinate Stage 5 design development and construction integration between client teams, Design House, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Review technical submissions including drawings, schematics, calculations, BIM models, and stress/thrust analysis reports.
- Manage and respond to RFIs, EWNs, NCRs, technical queries, and design comments.
- Carry out constructability reviews and identify design clashes, interface issues, and programme risks.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and installation teams to ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Support procurement activities including technical submittals, equipment approvals, material tracking, and supplier coordination.
- Produce and review RAMS, ITPs, quality records, and assurance documentation.
- Monitor site progress, conduct inspections, and support quality assurance activities.
- Coordinate interfaces across civils, structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines.
- Attend technical workshops, coordination meetings, and stakeholder reviews.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, standards, and programme requirements.
Required Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience delivering mechanical systems on major infrastructure, rail, tunnelling, utilities, or heavy civil projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services and pipework systems.
- Experience with design coordination and construction delivery.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, calculations, and BIM models.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary interfaces.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on rail or tunnelling projects.
- Knowledge of HS2 or similar major infrastructure standards.
- Experience with fire suppression systems, pumped drainage, and public health systems.
- Familiarity with BIM coordination and design review platforms.
