We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing, and repairing a fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), ensuring all vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational at all times. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, experience working within a commercial vehicle workshop environment, and the ability to carry out fault diagnosis and repairs across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
- Repair or replace defective components including engines, gearboxes, braking systems, and transmissions.
- Ensure all repair work is completed to a high standard and within required timescales.
- Inspections & Diagnostics
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections to identify potential faults or safety concerns.
- Use diagnostic equipment and tools to accurately assess vehicle issues.
- Interpret fault codes and technical data to determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Support drivers and operational teams by troubleshooting reported vehicle defects.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all fleet vehicles meet current HGV legislation, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Follow company health & safety procedures at all times.
- Keep up to date with industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
- Support the implementation of safe working practices within the workshop.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate service and repair records, including parts used, labour hours, and maintenance history.
- Produce clear documentation relating to inspections, repairs, and fleet compliance activities.
- Monitor and report vehicle downtime, maintenance costs, and recurring faults where required.
- Customer & Team Support
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and colleagues regarding vehicle status and repair updates.
- Work collaboratively with technicians and workshop teams to resolve complex technical issues.
- Deliver a professional and reliable service while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Requirements
- Proven experience within HGV maintenance, repair, or commercial vehicle workshops.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar transport maintenance role.
- NVQ Level 3 in HGV Service & Maintenance preferred.
- IRTEC qualification advantageous.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good organisational skills and ability to work independently.
- Financial and operational awareness.
- Full Category C+E driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 6:00am – 4:00pm
