An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Cable Assembler to join a well-established and expanding UK design and manufacturing organisation supporting the defence and surveillance sectors.
Reporting to the Cabling Supervisor, you will play a key role in the assembly, testing and delivery of high-quality cable and wiring assemblies, supporting both prototype and production programmes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-focused individual with cable assembly experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and contributing to innovative engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble cable and wiring assemblies from engineering drawings and specifications
- Work on both prototype and production builds
- Crimp pins onto wires and fit connectors accurately
- Lace cables using Kevlar or Nylon cord
- Apply braid and heat shrink to cable looms
- Carry out continuity testing on completed cable assemblies
- Verify cable dimensions using measuring equipment
- Apply identification labels to finished assemblies
- Assist with crimp pull-off testing
- Fit and shrink environmental connector boots
- Support connector population and assembly activities
- Solder wires into connectors
- Ensure build modifications are documented and communicated appropriately
- Liaise with Production Control regarding incomplete kits or shortages
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a Cable Assembler or similar manufacturing role
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Good problem-solving skills
Desirable
- Experience working to military standards (MIL-STDs)
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 standards
