Overview
We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a leading Energy Transition team, supporting the delivery of innovative, low-carbon and energy infrastructure projects across the UK and beyond. This role will involve taking a technical leadership position within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing to projects from early-stage feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and operational support. You will play a key role in developing high-quality electrical engineering solutions across a diverse range of energy sector projects, including emerging and first-of-a-kind technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the development of cost-effective and innovative electrical engineering solutions across multidisciplinary project teams
- Deliver electrical engineering work across all project stages, including:
- Feasibility studies
- Concept design
- FEED
- Value engineering
- Detailed design
- Single line diagrams (SLDs)
- Cable calculations
- Cable block diagrams
- Plant layouts and cable routing designs
- Containment designs
- Switchgear configuration philosophies
- Bills of materials and quantities
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Significant post-graduate experience in electrical design, operation, maintenance, or testing
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards IEng/CEng) with a relevant professional institution
- Strong understanding of power and energy project design, construction, and operation
- Proven ability to develop electrical engineering deliverables or assess operational/installed assets
- Experience with medium and high-voltage systems, including commissioning, operation, maintenance, and testing
- Strong understanding of engineering design processes, including:
- Design scope development
- Engineering calculations
- Technical documentation
Project Scope
Projects will support the Energy Transition and low-carbon infrastructure sector, including:
- Renewable and low-carbon energy systems
- Power generation and distribution infrastructure
- Industrial and energy process facilities
- First-of-a-kind and emerging energy technologies
- Full lifecycle delivery from concept through to decommissioning
You will work alongside developers, utilities, EPC contractors, OEMs, government bodies, and financial stakeholders.
