Are you an experienced Mechanical Fitter looking to work on some of the UK's most important defence engineering programmes? We're recruiting multiple Mechanical Fitters to join one of the UK's leading defence engineering organisations at Devonport Royal Dockyard - the largest naval base in Western Europe. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex marine engineering projects supporting the Royal Navy, whilst developing your skills within a long-term career environment.
The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be working within a highly skilled engineering team responsible for installing, maintaining and commissioning critical mechanical systems across a variety of defence and marine projects. This is a hands-on role offering exposure to large-scale engineering programmes, excellent career progression opportunities and the chance to develop specialist skills within a safety-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Installation, alignment and assembly of mechanical components and systems.
- Working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Conducting functional testing, leak detection and pressure testing.
- Operating workshop machinery and specialist engineering tools.
- Supporting commissioning and decommissioning activities.
- Ensuring all work is completed to the highest safety and quality standards.
Requirements
We're keen to speak with candidates who have experience within:
- Mechanical fitting or mechanical maintenance.
- Marine, defence, nuclear, heavy engineering or industrial environments.
- Hydraulic, pneumatic, rotating and static mechanical systems.
- Laser alignment and vibration analysis.
- System commissioning and fault finding.
You will also ideally have:
- A time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Fitting.
- A proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and career development.
- Experience mentoring apprentices or junior engineers is advantageous.
Security Clearance
Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Security clearance eligibility may be affected by nationality, residency and citizenship requirements.
