The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Paint Shop Operative to join the manufacturing team at Billington Structures' Wombwell facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and high-volume spray painting of structural steel components, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required specification and standard. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in the quality of their work, has excellent attention to detail and can work effectively within a busy production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out high-volume spray painting of structural steel components.
- Apply paint and protective coatings in accordance with specified requirements.
- Ensure all completed work meets the required quality and finish standards.
- Operate overhead gantry cranes safely when moving and positioning steel components.
- Follow production specifications, processes and quality requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Comply with all company health and safety procedures and site regulations.
- Complete tasks efficiently and within agreed production timescales.
- Identify and report any quality issues or defects.
- Work effectively as part of a wider production team.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to work and support the team in achieving production targets.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience working within a manufacturing, fabrication, engineering or industrial environment.
- A flexible and reliable approach to work.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work accurately to specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good time management and ability to work to deadlines.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
Desirable:
- Previous industrial or structural steel spray-painting experience.
- Experience using spray-painting equipment in a high-volume production environment.
- Overhead gantry crane experience or licence.
- Forklift truck licence.
- Side loader experience or licence.
- Previous experience working with steel components or within a structural steelworks environment.
Training:
Full training will be provided for the core requirements of the role, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates with relevant industrial or manufacturing experience who are looking to develop their skills within a specialist steelworks environment.
Working Hours
The role operates on a four-day shift pattern: Monday - Thursday: 4:00pm - 4:00am. The position is based permanently at the Wombwell facility following an initial six-week training period at the Sheffield site.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking and quality-focused, with the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment. You will have a strong eye for detail and take pride in producing a consistently high standard of work. Previous steel painting experience would be advantageous, but it is not essential as full training will be provided. Candidates with experience in industrial painting, manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, warehousing or other heavy industrial environments are encouraged to apply. A willingness to learn, good communication skills and a strong commitment to working safely are essential.

This is a permanent position based at Billington Structures' Wombwell facility, with an introductory training period at the Sheffield site for approximately six weeks. The successful candidate will be joining an established and experienced manufacturing team within a leading UK structural steelworks business.
