The No.1 Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the preparation, maintenance, and setup of competition or high-performance vehicles. This includes managing a small team of mechanics, ensuring quality control, and working closely with engineers and team management to deliver optimal performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the assembly, setup, and maintenance of the company's race cars to the highest standards.
- Take ownership of a designated car, ensuring it is prepared to spec and race-ready.
- Manage and delegate tasks to junior mechanics (No.2s, No.3s) while ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform fault diagnosis and repairs under tight time constraints during events and test sessions.
- Maintain detailed build sheets, setup sheets, and maintenance logs.
- Ensure compliance with technical regulations and team standards.
- Liaise with engineers and technical directors to implement setup changes and upgrades.
- Organise spare parts and equipment required for testing and racing.
- Travel to race and test events globally as needed.
- Uphold health and safety standards in the workshop and at the track.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Proven 5 years experience in a motorsport or high-performance automotive role.
- LMP2 / GT3 experience as a Number 1 mechanic for a minimum of two years.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with vehicle assembly, suspension, braking and systems integration.
- Leadership and team coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays.
- Full, clean driving licence.
Desirable:
- Experience with data systems and excellent record keeping abilities.
- Knowledge of specific motorsport series regulations.
