We are seeking a driven and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Rail Infrastructure Engineering team. In this key role, you will take charge of the design, coordination, and technical delivery of mechanical systems driving the HS2 programme. Operating within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary MEICA environment, you will lead complex work packages across the entire project lifecycle—from initial concept and detailed design straight through to construction, testing, and commissioning.

Major rail infrastructure, station environments, tunnels, and complex mechanical assets. Collaboration with tier-1 contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary digital engineering (BIM) teams.

Mechanical Design Technical Leadership
  • Lead the design of complex HVAC, tunnel ventilation, environmental control, public health, drainage, and fire suppression systems.
  • Prepare, review, and approve critical engineering deliverables including hydraulic calculations, ventilation data, equipment schedules, and technical specifications.
  • Provide robust technical guidance, mentoring, and resource planning support to junior engineers and design technicians.
Coordination, BIM Integration
  • Interface seamlessly across electrical, controls, civil, structural, and architectural disciplines to deliver fully integrated solutions.
  • Champion digital engineering delivery, ensuring designs are buildable, maintainable, and optimized within the BIM environment.
Design Assurance Commissioning
  • Ensure strict compliance with HS2 Technical Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE Guidelines, and CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews (IDC/IDR) and lead mechanical design risk assessments.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), supporting the commissioning teams through to final handover.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience: 5–10 years of mechanical engineering design experience within rail, infrastructure, transportation, utilities, or heavy building services.

Technical Depth: Mastery of HVAC, ventilation/smoke control, pumping systems, and engineering assurance frameworks. Prior project experience on HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, or Crossrail. Hands-on familiarity with digital tools: Revit MEP, Navisworks, Hevacomp, or IES VE.

This is more than a standard engineering job—it is an opportunity to shape a legacy infrastructure network. You will collaborate with industry-leading specialists, utilize advanced digital design platforms, and play a direct role in delivering energy-efficient, sustainable, and safe mechanical solutions for the next generation of rail travel.
