This is a permanent opportunity working as part of a small, skilled production team. The role would suit someone with a genuine interest in precision machining, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work from 2D CAD drawings to tight tolerances.

The Role

As a Machinist, you will be responsible for machining a variety of high and low value metal and plastic components. You will be working with manual machining equipment, producing parts to ISO tolerances and ensuring all work is completed accurately and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating manual lathes and milling machines
  • Working with Colchester 600 manual lathes and 5000VS manual milling machines
  • Using NC saws, manual lathes, and manual mills
  • Machining components to tight tolerances, up to +/-0.005mm
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and 2D CAD drawings
  • Producing components from materials including stainless steel, aluminium, brass, bronze, Igus, and plastics
  • Maintaining quality standards throughout the machining process
  • Working independently and as part of a close-knit production team

Experience Required

  • Previous machining experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Confident using manual lathes and manual milling machines
  • Able to work to tight tolerances
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Good attention to detail and pride in producing accurate work
  • Enthusiastic, practical, and able to work under your own initiative
  • Flexible team player with a hands-on approach
  • Welding experience would be beneficial but is not essential

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 16:30
Friday: 08:00 - 15:45
Includes an hour lunch break, plus morning and afternoon breaks.
