Shape the Future of UK Infrastructure

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer ready to leave a lasting legacy on the UK's largest infrastructure project? We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our world-class Rail & Infrastructure Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the technical delivery, coordination, and assurance of complex mechanical systems for the landmark HS2 programme. Working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary MEICA environment, you will take innovative engineering solutions from initial concept all the way through to testing, commissioning, and handover.

If you thrive on solving complex engineering interfaces, managing high-profile stakeholders, and mentoring the next generation of engineering talent, this is your opportunity to elevate your career.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Design Leadership: Lead the development and review of complex mechanical engineering solutions, including HVAC, tunnel ventilation, pumping stations, drainage, and fire suppression systems.
  • Engineering Assurance & Compliance: Take ownership of mechanical calculations (hydraulic, ventilation, pressure loss) and ensure all designs rigorously comply with HS2 Technical Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE Guidelines, and CDM Regulations (2015).
  • Multidisciplinary Integration: Lead Inter-Disciplinary Coordination and Reviews (IDC/IDR), collaborating closely with electrical, civil, structural, architectural, and systems engineering teams to deliver fully integrated, buildable solutions.
  • Project & Package Management: Manage mechanical engineering work packages throughout the project lifecycle, monitoring progress against programme milestones, reviewing subcontractor technical submissions, and supporting value engineering initiatives.
  • Team Development: Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, graduates, and design technicians, driving technical excellence and capability within the team.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Support the development of testing and commissioning strategies, attending Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to ensure seamless asset handover.
What We Are Looking For
  • Essential Experience: Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline. 5-10 years' experience in mechanical engineering design within a major infrastructure, rail, transportation, or heavy building services environment. Deep technical knowledge of HVAC, tunnel/smoke ventilation, public health, and pumping systems. Proven track record of navigating complex design assurance, risk assessment, and hazard review processes. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to manage senior client interfaces and lead multidisciplinary workshops.
  • Desirable Attributes: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards professional registration with IMechE or CIBSE. Prior experience on major rail programmes (e.g., HS2, Network Rail, London Underground, Crossrail). Familiarity with digital engineering tools and BIM environments (Revit MEP, Navisworks, Hevacomp, IES VE). Understanding of NEC contracts and infrastructure delivery models.
What's in it for You?

Beyond the opportunity to play a leading role on a generational infrastructure project, we offer a culture that genuinely values your technical expertise and professional growth.

  • Career Progression: Dedicated pathway to Principal Engineer / Technical Director with fully funded support for achieving/maintaining Chartership.
  • Flexible Working: A hybrid model balancing collaborative office/site time with independent home working.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive pension scheme, private healthcare, generous annual leave allowance, and corporate wellness perks.
