We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Environment Manager to lead environmental and sustainability performance across major construction projects. This is a key leadership role within the SHES function, driving best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement across the business.
About the Role
As Environment Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our environmental and sustainability strategy. You will work closely with site teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders to ensure full compliance, reduce environmental impact, and embed a culture of sustainability across all operations.
You will:
- Provide leadership in environmental and sustainability best practice in alignment with SHES objectives
- Ensure robust management systems are in place so all personnel understand statutory environmental duties
- Lead site teams to ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability plans
- Lead and support environmental incident investigations, identifying root causes and driving preventative actions
- Analyse environmental data, identify trends, and deliver actionable improvement strategies
- Develop and implement sustainability campaigns and performance improvement plans
- Prepare, review, and manage environmental documentation, including third-party submissions
- Oversee environmental and sustainability plans, procedures, and compliance checks
- Identify environmental risks and lead the development of mitigation projects
- Manage permits, consents, exemptions, and regulatory approvals
- Undertake internal and external audits
- Liaise with ecology and environmental consultants
- Share best practice across a growing E&S function
About You
We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable environmental professional with strong construction sector experience and a passion for sustainability.
You will ideally have:
- Full or Chartered membership of ISEP (desirable)
- Strong understanding of environmental risk management in construction projects, including:
- Ecological mitigation
- Consents, licensing and DCO/TCPA planning discharge
- Water management and pollution prevention
- Biodiversity Net Gain
- Waste management
- Statutory nuisance control
- Contaminated land management
- Experience in environmental training and capability development
- Strong knowledge of Net Zero principles and carbon reduction strategies
- Experience in carbon measurement, reporting, and reduction initiatives
- Proven background in environmental incident management and investigations
