We are currently seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering business based at its Head Office in Ipswich. This is a key role within the pre-construction and delivery support function, working closely with tendering teams and operational staff to develop efficient, buildable, and commercially viable construction programmes across a range of civil engineering schemes.

The successful candidate will bring strong site-based civil engineering experience, allowing them to translate practical construction knowledge into effective planning solutions and delivery strategies.

Role Overview

In this position, you will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and advising on construction methodologies and programmes during both tender and pre-contract stages. You will play an important role in ensuring that schemes are planned efficiently, risks are considered early, and alternative delivery methods are explored to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review tender documentation in detail and assess the most effective construction methodologies
  • Develop build strategies and delivery options based on site constraints and engineering requirements
  • Work closely with the tender team to explore alternative approaches and value engineering opportunities
  • Assess subcontracted works with a focus on buildability and compliance with tender requirements
  • Contribute to tender submissions, including supporting planning documentation and methodology statements

About You

We are looking for someone with strong practical experience in civil engineering environments who can confidently apply site knowledge to planning and programme development. You should have:

  • A background in civil engineering with significant site-based experience
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a pre-construction and tendering team
  • Experience using planning software such as Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project (desirable, not essential)
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to translate technical construction knowledge into clear planning outputs
