Role Overview
We are looking for a part-time Health, Safety Environment (HSE) Assistant to support the HSE Manager with routine compliance tasks, safety documentation, site inspections and general administrative support. This role will involve a balance of administrative duties, such as updating risk assessments and maintaining safety records, alongside hands-on site-based activities, including routine walkthroughs and checking that equipment and safety procedures are being followed correctly.
Core Objective
To support the HSE Manager in ensuring the site, including factory, warehouse and yard areas, remains compliant with legal health and safety standards, environmental requirements and internal company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspections Monitoring
- Conduct routine site walkthroughs to identify hazards and areas for improvement.
- Inspect equipment and ensure fire safety and emergency procedures are operational.
- Support skills and training audits with employees to assist skills development within manufacturing.
- Assist with action response and closeout for non-conformances raised or being raised.
- Use MST Access and Honeywell systems where required, with access to be provided.
- Documentation Administration
- Maintain safety records, including COSHH assessments, accident reports, near-miss logs and risk assessment files.
- Assist with the implementation of a COSHH system and development of new procedures to ensure sitewide use.
- Set up new HMD COSHH data sheets and support changes to existing HMD policy.
- Provide training and immediate support for new COSHH system users.
- Assist with the implementation of a new electronic observations system.
- Gather data for monthly environmental reporting, including support with packaging and VOC projects.
- Assist with Fire, First Aid and Emergency Escape event administration.
- Provide administration support for projects where required, including potential scanning projects for facilities and EHS documentation.
- Compliance Support
- Provide administrative support to ensure the business remains compliant with local health and safety legislation.
- Support Enhesa and compliance scheduling activities.
- Safety Culture
- Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging staff to report near-misses, observations and safety concerns.
- Liaise between staff and management to support effective closeout of safety actions.
- Update Focus EHS boards with relevant information, including projects, changes and safety flashes.
- Update observations spreadsheets and liaise with appropriate teams to support closeout.
Desired Skills & Experience
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, factory or construction environment.
- Strong administrative and documentation skills.
- Experience maintaining COSHH assessments, risk assessments, accident reports or near-miss logs.
- Confident conducting site inspections and liaising with internal teams.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach to safety.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and internal systems.
