Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation of technical packages to enable tender of projects.
- Act as the mechanical design authority for Generator projects, ensuring all mechanical packages meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and assure the delivery of mechanical engineering designs for projects and proposals, providing clear technical direction and governance.
- Drive high standards of engineering quality, consistency, and compliance across all mechanical deliverables.
- Support the development of engineering standards, processes, and best practices, embedding lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Provide senior technical support to project, commercial, and business development teams to enable successful project execution and bid outcomes.
- Provide early-stage technical input and support to the Engineering Department in the specification and design of Generator systems, with a focus on mechanical packages.
- Take responsibility for the specification, design, and delivery of mechanical packages on Generator projects from concept through to project handover and completion.
- Produce and review engineering deliverables including design calculations, drawings, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, procedures, and associated test documentation.
- Provide the Sales department with critical support to support decision making.
- Prepare technical proposals, submissions, scopes of work, procedures, and engineering studies in support of project and business development activities.
- Interface with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and clients to ensure alignment on technical requirements and deliverables.
- Attend Factory Witness Tests (FWT) of generators in the UK and Europe, supporting client inspections and technical acceptance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering function, including lessons learned, standardisation, and best practice development.
- Undertake additional departmental or business activities as required to support overall company objectives.
Key Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working toward chartership preferred.
- Significant experience in mechanical design and technical authority roles within generator systems, power generation, or complex industrial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant BS, EN, ISO standards, statutory regulations, and Health and Safety requirements.
- Proven experience approving mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, and supplier documentation.
- Ability to create PI&D, schematics within software.
- Ability to lead technical reviews, manage design risk, and make sound engineering decisions under tender and programme pressure.
- Experience supporting bids, proposals, and client-facing technical discussions.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe for factory testing, project site support, supplier engagement, and client meetings.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and design authority evidenced through compliant, robust, and right-first-time mechanical designs.
- Successful delivery of mechanical engineering scope to programme, quality, and cost targets.
- High levels of collaboration and effective technical leadership across project, proposal, and supplier interfaces.
- Positive client feedback and acceptance at key milestones including Factory Witness Testing and project handover.
- Continuous improvement in engineering standards, processes, and Health and Safety performance.
- Ongoing professional development and contribution to the technical capability of the Engineering team.
