An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Architect to join the Pre-Construction team of a leading international engineering and construction organisation. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of Europe's most technically challenging and prestigious projects, including data centres, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, commercial and other mission-critical developments.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary pre-construction team, you will provide architectural expertise throughout the tender and pre-construction phases, helping to develop innovative, buildable and commercially viable solutions that support successful project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for an Architect who enjoys collaborating with engineers, planners, estimators and construction professionals to influence projects from concept through to construction planning.
The Role
Reporting into the Pre-Construction team, you will play a key role in reviewing architectural designs, identifying opportunities for value engineering and ensuring projects are fully coordinated prior to construction. Working closely with internal departments, design consultants and specialist subcontractors, you will assess technical solutions, construction methodologies and project risks while helping to develop competitive tender submissions for major projects across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Architectural Design & Technical Review
- Review architectural designs during tender and pre-construction stages.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to develop practical and buildable project solutions.
- Ensure architectural proposals align with programme, cost and construction requirements.
- Review building systems, construction details and specification compliance.
- Support design coordination between architectural, structural and MEP disciplines.
- Pre-Construction Support
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and alternative construction methodologies.
- Review programme implications and sequencing of construction activities.
- Assess temporary works requirements and construction interfaces.
- Support the development of site logistics strategies, lifting studies and construction planning.
- Assist with construction methodology development for complex projects.
- Supply Chain & Procurement
- Prepare technical information for subcontract package enquiries.
- Work closely with specialist subcontractors during tender stages.
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals through detailed technical and commercial comparisons.
- Support procurement teams in selecting compliant and competitive solutions.
- Risk Management
- Identify technical, design and construction risks.
- Develop practical mitigation strategies during pre-construction.
- Contribute to design reviews and project workshops.
- Support the delivery of compliant, competitive and high-quality tender submissions.
About You
We're looking for a technically strong Architect who enjoys solving complex construction challenges and working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. You will be able to balance design intent with buildability, programme requirements and commercial considerations while contributing positively throughout the pre-construction process.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will possess:
- Master's Degree in Architecture (M.Arch) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience within the construction or design industry.
- Strong understanding of architectural design, construction detailing and modern building systems.
- Good knowledge of structural and civil engineering principles.
- Experience reviewing complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common design coordination platforms.
