Key Responsibilities
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Material & Energy Balances, and perform process simulations.
- Design and specify process systems, utilities, and associated equipment.
- Prepare detailed P&IDs for both process and critical utility systems.
- Define process control strategies, including CIP/SIP integration and automation requirements.
- Conduct feasibility studies, technology assessments, and process optimisation initiatives.
- Develop specifications and datasheets for process equipment, heat exchangers, reactors, filtration systems, and instrumentation.
- Manage vendor technical submittals, fabrication oversight, FATs, and commissioning support.
- Apply cGMP, GAMP, ATEX, COSHH, and relevant EU/ISO chemical engineering standards.
- Lead and participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments to ensure safety and environmental compliance.
- Lead chemical engineering scope for projects over €100M, ensuring integration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and mentor team members.
- Interface with clients, support proposals, and contribute to project planning and execution strategies.
- Drive process efficiency improvements using LEAN principles.
- Support the development of internal design standards, tools, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
- Visit client sites, fabrication shops, and construction or commissioning locations as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 10+ years in chemical process engineering within pharmaceuticals, biotech, or high-spec chemical industries.
- Proven track record delivering engineering scope for projects exceeding €100 million.
- Proficiency in process simulation tools, AutoCAD, and smart P&ID software.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and chemical reaction engineering.
- Detailed knowledge of cGMP, GAMP, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Strong client relationship management skills and the ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
